Curious to know more about the fungus kingdom and the role of both edible and inedible mushrooms in our lives?

Join us October 28th and 29th for our second-annual mushrooming event.

This year our summer intern and resident mycologist Ida Gianopulos will be sharing her knowledge and excitement about fungi of all varieties in this two-part event.

Friday night October 28th at 7:00 she will be giving a talk about the ecology and importance of mushrooms at the Nehalem Event Center (above Art Happens in downtown Nehalem). Saturday

morning the 29th from 10:00-12:00 she will lead a walk at Oswald West State Park identifying edible and inedible mushrooms alike and their role in the local ecology. In the evening the group will gather again at 5:30 p.m. at the Nehalem Event Center to sample a range of edible local mushrooms. The talk alone will be $5 for non-members and free for members, while the costs for both days activities will be $30 for non-members and $25 for members.

When: New Years Day of course!

Where: Neahkahnie Beach, the parking lot just north of the stop sign on Beulah Reed Road. It’s the last big parking area on the north end of the beach. (one mile north of Laneda Ave downtown).

Time: 10:00 am that’s the time we meet and take pictures and have our friends (the ones not doing it) laugh at us. Then we “just do it”. Please try to be on time so we don’t have to freeze our tuckus off while you are running up yelling “wait for me”!

Rules: Very Important – We have to gather on the beach together and form a group so we can take a group photo, in our bathing suits, then there is a countdown and we all run in the ocean together!

Post: We hope to have a big fire on the beach to cozy up to after the plunge. Then you are invited to come by spa manzanita for hot cider, tea, treats and war stories!

The Chanukah lights provide us with warmth, joy, strength and inspiration. Such is the purpose of this celebration.

 The evening will include the lighting of the menorah, music, wine and Chanukah treats like jelly doughnuts and latkes. 

This is the first time a Hanukah Celebration has been offered in our community and it should be very exciting and wonderful!

In its Chanukah outreach campaign, Chabad of Oregon will be joining thousands of Chabad centers across the globe that are staging similar events. From Australia to Africa, Columbia to Hong Kong, New York City’s Fifth Avenue to the White House lawn, hundreds of thousands will experience the joy of Chanukah with Chabad. Locally, Chabad will hosting and co hosting over 20 events throughout the state.
